As the world’s leading cargo hub with extensive network, Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) has been taking the lead in driving air cargo digitalization. The recent pilot launch of the Import Air Cargo Collection Digitalization Module of HKIA Cargo Data Platform as powered by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) is another industry breakthrough that brings Hong Kong air cargo industry to a new frontier.

This digital transformation initiative not only enables the issuance of electronic Shipment Release Form (eSRF) but also unleashes full end-to-end process streamlining and digitalization of import cargo collection journey at Hong Kong cargo terminals. Through a single login at the all-in-one HKIA Cargo Data Platform, Hong Kong freight forwarders can now access to the relevant import cargo information ranging from flight arrival status, cargo collection order readiness and key activity milestones. Operations document can be shared to related stakeholders via document upload and EzyCargo™ e-Pouch* functions to enable paperless process. Authorized personnel can retrieve their eSRF off-site upon e-payment settlement and authentication. Cargo collection orders assignment and advanced truck registration at the cargo terminal can be done online. HKIA Cargo Data Platform is also equipped with the regulator portal with ‘e-stamp’ and ‘e-queue’ functions to facilitate the cargo inspection process of the HKSARG regulators.

The new digital application creates better users’ experience in the freight forwarding community with more secured, streamlined and paperless import cargo collection process via an integrated platform. The truckers can now reduce much physical dwells at the terminal while better cargo journey visibility is enabled. From the cargo terminal side, the customer service counter and paper-based cargo collection processes can be reduced, which can subsequently enjoy better terminal resources deployment and operations efficiency overall.

Cathay Cargo Terminal is the pioneer cargo terminal operator that has been extensively engaged with AAHK in co-developing the eSRF solution. Furthermore, the three Hong Kong SAR Government Regulators, namely Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and Customs and Excise Department, are key stakeholders extending full support to AAHK in enabling this end-to-end digitalization initiative.

Moving forward, HKIA Cargo Data Platform will be enhanced with additional functions and features on this import module to further expand its scope to cover all import orders of all cargo terminals and consignees.
